Seven Islands State Birding Park, State birding park in Kodak, Tennessee, United States.
Seven Islands State Birding Park is a nature reserve and state park in Kodak, Tennessee, running along the French Broad River with woodland, wetland, and grassland areas. The site is set up specifically for birdwatching, with hiking trails, boat launch points, and open viewing areas spread across the property.
Before becoming a state park, this land was used as a family farm, and that agricultural past shaped the open fields still visible today. It was designated as Tennessee's 56th state park in 2014.
The park draws birdwatchers who come specifically to spot migratory species passing through Tennessee. Along the riverbanks and open fields, visitors often see species that rarely appear elsewhere in the region.
Early morning is the best time to visit, as birds are most active in the first hours after sunrise. Plan to spend at least a few hours to cover the riverbank areas and the open grassland sections separately.
The name refers to small islands and shallow shoals in the French Broad River that are visible throughout the year. These river features create separate habitats that draw different bird species depending on the season.
