St. Benedict Catholic Church is a house of worship featuring Spanish-influenced design, with a spacious central nave, side chapels, and stained glass windows showing biblical scenes. The building is designed to accommodate several hundred worshippers and serves multiple religious functions.

The first Catholic Mass in Greensboro was celebrated in the 1870s by Benedictine priests from Belmont Abbey. Construction of the first church, St. Anne's, began in 1877 with Bishop James Gibbons laying the cornerstone; it was renamed St. Benedict's for the priests and sold in 1899 to become Greensboro High School. The current church was built after land was bought between North Elm and Smith Streets, aided by $1,500 from St. Katharine Drexel on condition that pews be reserved for African-American parishioners.

The parish takes its name from the Benedictine priests of Belmont Abbey who travelled to Greensboro to celebrate Mass in Catholics' homes from the 1870s. Its first building, begun in 1877 as St. Anne's, was renamed St. Benedict's in their honour.
