Lake Alan Henry

Lake Alan Henry is a reservoir in the Panhandle Plains region with steep banks and submerged timber visible throughout the water. The lake features multiple coves and sheltered areas where boats can anchor safely.

The lake came into existence in the early 1990s when the John T. Montford Dam was constructed as a water supply project. This project was built to serve the growing water needs of the nearby city of Lubbock.

Anglers gather at the water's edge throughout the year to fish for bass and other species in the lake. The fishing community considers this place an important gathering spot for outdoor recreation and connection with nature.

The lake has multiple boat ramps and parking areas at different locations around the shoreline. The Sam Wahl Recreation Area serves as a good starting point with camping spots and docking facilities.

Water from this reservoir is transported to Lubbock through an extensive network of pumps and underground pipelines. This delivery system is one of the more complex water supply operations serving the region.
