Harambee Park, Urban park in Dorchester and Mattapan, Boston, US.
Harambee Park is an urban recreational space with two Little League baseball fields, four basketball courts, two cricket pitches, two soccer fields, and one football field. The various sports facilities are distributed across the grounds to serve different sports and age groups.
The park was designed in 1892 by Frederick Law Olmsted under the original name Franklin Field to provide sports facilities separate from the nearby Franklin Park. Its renaming to Harambee Park reflects the evolution of the site into a modern community space for the Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods.
The name Harambee comes from Swahili meaning "to pull together", reflecting how different communities share and use this space. People gather here to play, train, and spend time with family and friends, making it a social hub.
The park is accessible via bus routes 22, 45, 28, and 29, with parking lots available for visitors. Bring sports equipment if you plan to play, since the courts and fields are used for different activities throughout the day.
The park is currently undergoing renovation work that includes building two new cricket fields, one of which is a competition facility with lighting systems. This project reflects the growing interest in cricket in Boston and the city's investment in sports infrastructure.
