Talos No. 2, Bronze sculpture in downtown Portland, United States
The bronze sculpture Talos No. 2 stands seven feet tall on three legs, featuring abstract representations of a head, rib cage, and hips.
Created by American artist James Lee Hansen between 1959 and 1977, the sculpture received funding from TriMet's Percent for Art program and the Department of Transportation.
The sculpture represents Talos, a mythological bronze giant from Greek legends who protected the island of Crete from external threats.
Following vandalism in 2015, the Regional Arts & Culture Council coordinated repairs that included welding and chemical treatments to restore the 400-pound sculpture.
The sculpture initially stood between Morrison and Alder streets until 2007, when renovation works led to its relocation near Stark Street in 2009.
