Silver Dawn, Public sculpture in Wallace Park, Portland, United States.
Silver Dawn is a stainless steel sculpture with geometric forms that create positive and negative spaces throughout its structure. The work stands approximately 6 feet (2 meters) tall and 10 feet (3 meters) wide, situated within Wallace Park.
Spanish American artist Manuel Izquierdo created this work in 1980 as part of Portland's public art development. The project received funding from Esco Corporation, Schnitzer, and the Portland Development Commission.
The sculpture expresses Izquierdo's distinctive approach to abstraction with organic, flowing forms that emerged from his artistic practice in Portland. Visitors can see how his work bridges biomorphic references with pure geometry.
The sculpture is located at the intersection of Northwest 25th Avenue and Northwest Raleigh Street within the park grounds. It remains accessible to visitors throughout the year and makes for a good starting point when exploring the surrounding area.
The metal structure displays an unusual design suggesting a seal or walrus with a single eye and three legs. This open quality invites each visitor to develop their own interpretation of what they see.
