Barth-Hempfling House
Barth-Hempfling House, Historic Victorian house on Main Street in North Little Rock, United States.
The Barth-Hempfling House is a single-story wooden building on Main Street in North Little Rock with five evenly spaced bays and a side gable roof. The structure displays Late Victorian style features with clean lines and solid wood-frame construction throughout.
The building was constructed in 1886 when German immigrants were flowing into the region and settling rapidly. It survived the following decades and was later added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The residence reflects the building traditions that German immigrants brought with them when they settled in Arkansas during the late 1800s. The wooden frame and careful craftsmanship show how this community maintained its skills and ways of construction in their new home.
The house sits on Main Street and is easy to find when walking along the thoroughfare. The location is walkable, allowing you to view the exterior and architectural details clearly from the street.
The building is the last remaining example from an original collection of similar houses that once lined Main Street downtown. All the other houses from that era have disappeared, making this structure a rare remnant of that vanished neighborhood.
