Rand Hall

Rand Hall is a three-story university building with yellow brick and Neoclassical design elements at Cornell University. The structure houses specialized workshops and equipment where architecture students develop their technical and creative capabilities.

The building was designed in 1912 by architects Gibb and Waltz and named after the founders of the Rand Drill Company. Its construction marked an important milestone for the growth of Cornell's architecture program at the institution.

The building serves as the creative hub for the architecture program, where students translate their design ideas into physical models and structures. Daily work here reflects how the program values hands-on learning and practical problem-solving in the design process.

The building features an elevator and large windows that provide natural light throughout the work spaces inside. Visitors should expect to see studios and workshops in active use during the academic year when students are working on projects.

Every year students construct a large dragon in the ground floor workshop that is carried through the city in a traditional parade. This annual ritual connects the building's creative output directly with the broader campus community in a remarkable way.
