United States Courthouse for the District of Utah, Federal courthouse in Salt Lake City, United States
The Orrin G. Hatch United States Courthouse is a ten-story federal building with a glass exterior located at 351 South West Temple. It contains seven district courtrooms and three magistrate courtrooms distributed across its floors.
Construction began in 2013 to replace the overcrowded Frank E. Moss facility that had become insufficient for the district's needs. The new building provided expanded capacity and modern infrastructure for federal court operations.
A central sculpture made of optical aluminum tubes by artist James Carpenter creates a focal point in the atrium. Visitors passing through notice how light plays across the installation, drawing attention to the open interior space.
The building is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM with standard security screening for visitors. A cafe on the ground floor and conference facilities on the sixth floor serve those who need extended time on site.
The building earned LEED Gold certification in 2015 through sustainable design choices including low-flow plumbing fixtures and water conservation measures. These environmental features work quietly behind the scenes to minimize resource use throughout the structure.
