Richland Creek Reservoir, body of water
Richland Creek Reservoir is a large water storage facility in Paulding County designed to hold drinking water for the region, covering about 305 acres. The installation includes a dam, a water treatment plant, and pipelines to distribute water to residents and businesses.
Paulding County voted in 1999 to develop the reservoir and acquired the necessary land for the project. After more than 16 years of planning and construction work, the project received a critical permit from the Army Corps of Engineers in 2015.
Public access to the facility is currently not permitted for safety reasons, and unauthorized entry can result in criminal charges. There are planned areas nearby with a boat ramp and recreational spaces that may become available to visitors in the future.
The project was originally scheduled to be completed by 2019, yet construction work continues today, demonstrating the complexity of large infrastructure undertakings. Once operational, it could save the county approximately 100 million dollars by the middle of the century.
