Old Grist Mill

Old Grist Mill is a 2.5-story wooden structure with a gable roof and stone foundation situated beside a river. The building encompasses the original milling space along with residential and working areas that were restored in the 1970s.

The mill was built in 1774 and initially ground grain for local farmers. Production later shifted to wooden shingles and boards before operations ceased around 1870.

The mill served as a gathering place where community members met and shared news throughout its operating years. It represented more than just a workplace, functioning as a social hub for the surrounding area.

The mill sits on Little River Road on grounds spanning about 2 acres. The location is straightforward to find by following the small road that runs along the river.

The building retains its original hand-hewn timber frame with massive beams that were carefully shaped by hand centuries ago. This traditional construction method remains visible throughout the structure, offering insight into early American building techniques.
