Frederick Francis Woodland Palace, Historic house in Kewanee Township, Illinois, US.

Frederick Francis Woodland Palace is a residence in Kewanee Township featuring a brick exterior, concrete tower entrance, and gambrel roof design. The building spreads across 2 acres and includes two porches, a sunroom, and multiple wings that showcase the owner's extensive construction vision.

Construction began in 1889 and continued through numerous renovations and expansions during the owner's lifetime. The property's development spanned nearly 4 decades until the founder's death in 1926, marking the end of an era of personal architectural ambition.

The design showcases Victorian ambitions through ornate towers and bay windows, reflecting the owner's success and taste during the industrial boom. Such estates represented how wealthy families displayed their status and refined living standards to their communities.

The site sits adjacent to Francis Park, about 2,5 miles northeast of Kewanee via Interstate 80 exit 33 and Highway 78. Visitors should prepare for walking across the expansive grounds and bring sun protection, as the open landscape offers limited shade.

One of the most unusual features is a bedroom designed to resemble a Pullman railroad sleeping car, reflecting the owner's fascination with travel. An ingenious lever system also allows both front doors to open and close simultaneously.
