Fuqua Lake

Fuqua Lake, reservoir in Stephens County, Oklahoma constructed in 1962

Fuqua Lake is a large reservoir in Stephens County with a surface area of about 1500 acres and a shoreline stretching over 19 miles (31 kilometers). Created in 1962 with an earthen dam, it reaches a maximum depth of just over 37 feet (11 meters) and serves as a water supply for the nearby town of Duncan.

The dam project was completed in 1962 to create a water storage facility for the region. It became part of a system of four reservoirs that together secure the water supply for Duncan and the surrounding area.

The lake is named after Babe Fuqua, a man from Fort Worth involved in oil and politics, and this name reflects the local history of the area. Over more than 60 years, it has become an important gathering place for the community where locals spend weekends and holidays with family and friends.

The lake is about 24 kilometers from Duncan with fishing and boating spots along its quiet shoreline and several bait and tackle shops nearby in town and around the area. Since 2025, non-residents from outside Oklahoma must check in upon arrival and check out when leaving, though this process is free with no visit limits.

The lake is one of four water sources in the system serving Duncan, and its average depth of about 14 meters creates ideal conditions for both beginner and experienced anglers. These relatively shallow waters mean fish are easy to reach and offer good catching opportunities for different skill levels.
