Crest Fishing Pier
Crest Fishing Pier is a structure extending over 1,000 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, located at Heather Road where the boardwalk meets the waterfront. It features fishing areas, walking space, benches, modern lighting, water stations, and interpretive signs that explain the coastal environment.
The original pier was built many decades ago as a fishing and recreational spot for the community. Natural coastal shifts gradually altered the shoreline, causing the pier to lose connection with the water until reconstruction plans were developed to restore its purpose starting in 2026.
The pier serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors come together to enjoy time by the water and experience the simple pleasures of ocean life. The space has a welcoming, informal quality that draws fishermen, families, and travelers who share the same desire to be near the sea.
The pier is approximately 12 feet wide and raised to the height of nearby dunes for protection from waves and safe access for all visitors. The structure includes benches for resting, water stations for hydration, and clear signage to help you navigate the space.
The beaches here grow wider by about 20 feet each year due to natural sand drifting from northern barrier islands, creating a constantly shifting coastline. This ongoing process means visitors may notice the shoreline and underwater landscape differ noticeably from season to season.
