Plage de Wildwood Crest is a free public beach on the New Jersey coast, located in the small shoreside town of Wildwood Crest. The beach runs along the coastline and can be reached from the end of many cross streets, making it easy to find a spot from different entry points.
Wildwood Crest grew into a popular shore destination during the 20th century, shaped by the architecture of the 1950s and 1960s that gave the town its colorful, retro look. The beach has drawn families and summer visitors for decades, becoming a familiar part of the local identity.
Certain areas of the Wildwood Crest beach are set aside for surfing, kite flying, and ball games, so different groups can share the space without conflict. In summer, children can join the Junior Lifeguard Program, where they learn swimming skills and water safety in a structured setting.
Lifeguards are on duty from late May through early September, covering the main daytime hours. Visitors with mobility challenges can use a free transport service to reach the shoreline, available during lifeguard hours.
Dogs are welcome on the beach from October through May, but must be kept on a leash at all times and owners must clean up after them. Outside of those months, no animals are allowed on the sand, which keeps the summer beach free of pets.
