Springton Lake, Pennsylvania

Springton Lake, Pennsylvania, body of water

Springton Lake is a large reservoir in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, covering about 391 acres across three townships: Newtown, Marple, and Upper Providence. A dam built in 1931 across Crum Creek holds back the water, and the lake contains various fish species including bass, crappie, catfish, and muskie.

The reservoir was created in 1931 when a dam was built across Crum Creek to supply drinking water to the surrounding communities. Over the decades, it became a key part of the local water infrastructure, serving the area consistently for nearly a century.

The name comes from the local area's heritage. Though mainly used for water supply today, the reservoir holds a place in people's memories as a spot where fishing and outdoor enjoyment once happened regularly.

The reservoir is patrolled during daytime to maintain safety and protect water quality. Access is limited since the water is managed for drinking supply and must be kept clean and secure.

A bald eagle has built a nest on the Upper Providence side of the lake, making it a rare and notable sighting for the area. This large bird of prey has become an unexpected symbol of the natural life that thrives here.
