University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm
University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm, Horse breeding facility in Weybridge, United States
The University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm is a breeding facility in Weybridge spread across expansive grounds with historic structures. These include a distinctive 19th century barn and a Greek Revival brick house that define the place's appearance.
The program was founded in 1905 by the United States Department of Agriculture and relocated to Weybridge two years later in 1907. This move allowed the breeding operation to develop at a new location.
The farm is known for raising Morgan horses, which hold special significance in Vermont's heritage. Visitors see horses bred according to the same lineages for generations, keeping the region's traditions alive.
Visitors can participate in guided tours and educational programs from May through October, learning about daily horse care and breeding. The grounds are generally accessible on most days, allowing you to view barns and pasture areas.
The farm preserves a statue of Figure, the founding stallion from whom all Morgan horses at this breeding program descend. This statue stands as a quiet monument to the breed's origin.
