Robert V. Riddell State Park, State park in Otsego and Delaware counties, New York.
Robert V. Riddell State Park is a large protected area in Otsego and Delaware counties spanning thousands of acres. The landscape contains open fields, thick forests, and a creek called Schenevus with trails winding through it.
The land belonged to a single family beginning in 1871 until it was donated in 2005. The gift from Patricia Riddell Kent and Steven Kent led to the creation of the protected park we see today.
Students from nearby Hartwick College use the land for environmental research and field studies. This partnership keeps the place connected to scientific learning and conservation work.
The park opens during daylight hours year-round for hiking, winter sports, fishing, and bird watching. Bring appropriate gear for seasonal changes since weather can shift quickly.
Mud Lake contains floating mats made of sphagnum moss where carnivorous plants grow. The peat beneath the surface reaches significant depths, making it geologically unusual.
