Highland Forest, County park in Onondaga County, United States
Highland Forest is a county park covering 2,700 acres of mixed forest with over 48 kilometers of marked trails. The terrain accommodates different user groups, with routes dedicated to hiking, horseback riding, biking, and cross-country skiing.
The area was developed to accommodate a section of the North Country Trail, which runs from North Dakota to eastern New York. This long-distance trail helps connect the Finger Lakes region with the Adirondack Mountains.
Youth groups and scout troops use cabins and campsites throughout the forest for outdoor education programs. These spaces serve as gathering points where local communities regularly gather for outdoor learning experiences.
Different trails are marked with symbols to separate riders, cyclists, and skiers. Check conditions before your visit to find which routes are open for your chosen activity.
Visitors can enjoy horse-drawn sleigh rides through snowy forest paths during winter months. Summer brings guided horseback riding expeditions through the woodland terrain.
