Mount Pleasant Downtown Historic District

The Mount Pleasant Downtown Historic District contains 70 buildings constructed between the 1870s and 1950s, featuring brick commercial structures of one to three stories.

Following devastating fires in 1875 and 1882, the district experienced reconstruction with brick buildings replacing wooden structures, leading to the establishment of a fire station.

The intersection of Broadway and Main forms the center of eight blocks that preserve architectural elements from different periods, including Italianate structures and mid-century modifications.

The district maintains concrete sidewalks, benches, historic light posts, and planters that enhance the pedestrian experience while connecting various commercial establishments.

The 1877 Fancher Block stands as the oldest structure in the district, accompanied by the 1879 building at 130 S. Main and a series of buildings from 205 to 217 South Main.
