The Lotta Crabtree Cottage is a Shingle-style house of 18 rooms on land sloping down to Van Every Cove. It stands 2-1/2 stories on the land side and 3-1/2 on the lake side. Frank Furness gave it "upside-down" chimneys with corbels flaring outward near the top, and a porch with a semi-circular section tracing the curve of the parlor wraps around three sides.

Built in 1885–86, the cottage was designed by Philadelphia architect Frank Furness for actress Lotta Crabtree, who received it as part of a promotion for his nearby Breslin Hotel (1886, burned 1948). She named it "Attol Tryst" and summered there for 20 years. The house is a contributing property in the Mount Arlington Historic District.

The house sits in a residential neighborhood in Mount Arlington that is easy to walk around and fits the local character of the area. The best time to visit is during daytime when the details of the wooden exterior and surrounding grounds are clearly visible.

The billiard room's stone fireplace once held a mosaic spelling "18 - LOTTA - 86" in gemstones, a detail most visitors never hear about. Crabtree named the cottage "Attol Tryst" — "Lotta" spelled backward — and summered there for 20 years.
