Shah Alam, Capital city in Selangor, Malaysia
Shah Alam is the capital of Selangor state in Malaysia, linking residential areas, industrial zones, and educational districts through a network of modern roads and elevated highways. The city divides into numbered sections, each serving different functions and interspersed with green spaces.
The government of Selangor founded the city in 1963 on the site of the former Sungai Renggam Plantation, aiming to create a new administrative seat outside Kuala Lumpur. In 1978, the place officially gained city status and became the center of regional government.
Visitors and residents use the wide public parks and gardens for weekend activities, where families gather and people stroll along the pathways. The name comes from Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah, during whose reign Selangor modernized the region and set the foundation for today's urban life.
Most visitors reach the city by car or via expressways that lead directly into the numbered sections. Public transport such as buses and the light rail connection offer additional ways to move around, and a map helps to understand the section numbering system.
The botanical garden in Section 2 holds a collection of native plants and offers walking trails through different ecosystems found on the Malay Peninsula. An observation tower in the park allows views over the canopy and surrounding landscape toward the hills in the east.
