The Sri Mahamariamman Temple stands with a 23.5-foot gopuram decorated with detailed sculptures of deities, soldiers, floral patterns, and five kalasams at the top.
The temple began as a small shrine in 1801 before British authorities granted the land to Betty Lingam Chetty, leading to its formal establishment in 1833.
The temple conducts traditional South Indian ceremonies and serves as a central place of worship for the Tamil community, with daily rituals performed by temple priests.
Visitors can access the temple daily from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with prayer sessions occurring at 7:30 AM and 6:30 PM.
The temple walls feature numerous detailed sculptures depicting Lord Ganesha and Hindu figures, complemented by ornate interior decorations reflecting Dravidian architectural elements.
