During the Malayan Emergency from 1948 to 1960, the cave network served as a shelter for resistance fighters who left inscriptions on its walls.

The name Tempurung derives from the Malay word for coconut shell, referencing the profile of the surrounding 500-meter limestone hills.

Four different guided tours allow visitors to explore up to 1.9 kilometers of passages, from simple walking paths to advanced routes requiring water navigation.

The cave contains mineral deposits including tin and marble, with evidence of mining operations from the previous century visible throughout specific sections.
