Bukit Keteri, Limestone hill in Kangar, Malaysia.
Bukit Keteri is a limestone hill near Kangar, Perlis, rising approximately 131 meters above the surrounding landscape and ringed by rice fields. The hill features steep rocky faces with natural cave openings that penetrate into its interior.
The hill has been known to locals for generations, but its climbing routes were formally developed through an expedition program in 2007. This opened the hill to organized exploration and wider visitor access.
The area around this limestone hill is shaped by local food traditions and village life. You can find small family-run restaurants and stalls nearby where people gather to eat and socialize, reflecting how communities use the spaces around the hill.
The best climbing season runs from March through October when limestone provides better grip and conditions are more stable. Sturdy hiking shoes and plenty of water are important, as the routes are exposed and get sun throughout the day.
Deep inside the hill lies a vast cave system with a chamber large enough to hold an aircraft. This underground void is remarkably spacious and comes as a surprising discovery for climbers exploring the interior.
