Nuristan National Park

Nuristan National Park is a protected area covering mountainous forests and deep valleys in eastern Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region. The landscape features dense woodlands and steep mountain slopes that define the terrain throughout the park.

The region was formerly called Kafiristan before its inhabitants converted to Islam in 1895 under Afghan rule. This transformation marked a pivotal moment in the area's history and identity.

Snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, and markhor goats live in the park within protected boundaries. Few visitors ever witness these rare animals in their natural habitat here.
