D1, Residential skyscraper in Culture Village, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The D1 is a residential skyscraper that rises 284 meters with 80 floors in the Culture Village area of Dubai. Inside are 528 homes ranging from studios to large penthouses, along with fitness facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, and extensive parking.
Construction began in 2007 under the Emirates Sunland Group and was completed by Enshaa in 2015. The project represented an important development in regional architecture during this period.
The tower reflects a connection to traditional dhow boat construction, with design elements that reference the maritime heritage of the Gulf region. Visitors walking through the building can see how this influence shapes its architectural identity in a contemporary setting.
The tower is easy to locate and navigate within Culture Village due to its distinctive shape and prominent position. Visitors can explore the surrounding area on foot and view the structure from various angles throughout the neighborhood.
This was the first free-form timber tower built in the Middle East, introducing wooden construction methods that were new to the region at that scale. The glass facade protects the timber while allowing the craftsmanship to remain visible from multiple perspectives.
