Paktia Province

Paktia is a province in eastern Afghanistan with mountainous terrain divided into multiple administrative districts, centered on the city of Gardez. The region spans several distinct geographical zones and administrative units that each serve local populations.

The province went through major administrative changes in 2021 when multiple districts underwent restructuring in a short period. This reshuffling altered the boundaries and administrative organization of several areas across the region.

The Pashtun communities here maintain customs that shape daily interactions and how decisions get made at the local level. Tribal leaders and government officials both play roles in guiding the region's affairs.

The region faces challenges with electricity supply, so many areas rely on local power sources like solar panels and generators. Visitors should expect limited infrastructure and be prepared for inconsistent services in more remote areas.

The Shah-i-Kot Valley here contains natural rock formations that create natural defensive features within the surrounding mountain ranges. These geographical qualities have shaped how settlements developed in the area.
