Halveti Teqe, Berat, Sufi spiritual center in Berat, Albania.
The Halveti Teqe is a Sufi spiritual center in Berat with a square prayer hall featuring a wooden ceiling and decorated walls. Stone columns from Apollonia form a portico at the entrance, while the interior walls display stalactite ornaments surrounding the mihrab.
Built in 1782 by Ahmet Kurt Pasha, the teqe incorporated architectural elements from ancient Greek structures. A mausoleum of its founder stands within the complex.
The prayer hall contains eight frescoes showing houses, religious buildings, and landscapes that reflect how the community saw its world. A wooden mafil platform stands within for conducting ceremonies.
The site is open to visitors interested in exploring religious architecture, with walls featuring holes designed to enhance acoustics. Baroque decorations throughout the interior help guide visitors through the space.
Master Dush Barka created the interior decorations by combining Islamic art with gold-plated accents that catch the light. This skilled blending of techniques makes the interior visually striking.
