St. Amenaprkitch

St. Amenaprkitch is a 19th century church building located on Vartanants Square in Gyumri with a domed basilica design. The structure rises approximately 36 meters and occupies a central position in the city's main square, displaying classical Armenian architectural traditions.

The building was constructed between 1858 and 1872 by architect Tadeos Andikyan, emerging after local Armenian Apostolic Church members sought to establish their presence in a diverse religious community. Its creation marked an important moment in the city's religious landscape and continues to serve that purpose today.

The church displays traditional Armenian architectural and decorative elements that visitors can observe throughout its interior and exterior. It serves as a gathering place where local believers continue to practice their faith and maintain community traditions.

The square is easily accessible on foot and the building is visible and approachable from the outside. Keep in mind that the interior may not always be open depending on services or events, so it is best to check ahead or visit during morning hours.

During the Soviet era, this house of worship was transformed into a museum and concert hall for classical music performances. It later returned to its original religious purpose, but the chapter of its cultural reuse remains part of its story.
