Parque Pleistocénico de Osorno

Pleistocene Park is a theme park in Osorno with life-size replicas of prehistoric animals such as gomphotheriums, saber-toothed cats, South American horses, and mylodons. The facility also offers swimming pools, an ice skating rink, and outdoor recreational areas for families.

The park was created following the discovery of fossil remains at the Pilauco Bajo archaeological site in 2007, which prompted research by Austral University of Chile. These findings revealed that the region was once home to these extinct creatures thousands of years ago.

The park shows how artists and scientists worked together to recreate how these extinct animals lived and moved through their environment. Visitors can see these creatures placed within landscapes that reflect the marshes and vegetation that once covered this region.

The park is designed for visitors of all ages, with walking paths and discovery areas alongside recreational facilities. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore the different exhibition areas at a relaxed pace.

Artist Pablo Jofré created the animal replicas with precise scientific accuracy under expert guidance. His work demonstrates how detailed reconstructions of these lost worlds can be by recreating authentic habitats with marshlands and period-appropriate vegetation.
