Constitución sits on Chile's Pacific coast at the mouth of the Maule River in Talca Province. The city spreads across flat terrain surrounded by forests, with industrial plants shaping the local landscape.

The settlement was founded in 1794 as Nueva Bilbao and received its current name in 1828 when the Chilean Congress established it as a major port. This renaming marked its rise as an important coastal trade center.

The waterfront area reflects fishing traditions and local customs visible in daily activities and gatherings by the water. Life here centers on the connection between the community and the sea.

The town is easily reached via the main highway and offers access to the beach and river areas for visitors. The best time to visit is between spring and summer when the weather is most pleasant.

Following the 2010 earthquake, the city implemented an innovative protection system using forest strips as natural barriers against future tsunamis. This approach combines environmental care with disaster prevention in a practical way.
