Palacio Pereira, Cultural institution in downtown Santiago, Chile
Palacio Pereira is an arts center in downtown Santiago featuring neoclassical architecture with generous interior proportions. The building is organized around a central hall with high ceilings and multiple exhibition spaces designed to showcase works and host cultural gatherings.
The building was designed in 1872 by French architect Lucien Henault as a private residence for a senator. It was later adapted through several phases before transitioning to public cultural use in the early 2000s.
The palace functions today as a venue for rotating art exhibitions and cultural events where visitors encounter contemporary and classical works displayed throughout its rooms. The spaces maintain their original grandeur while serving as an active hub for creative programs.
The location is accessible from the downtown business district along a busy street. Visitors will find exhibition galleries, a reading room, and a café within the building's interior.
The restoration of the palace retained the original structure and proportions while introducing contemporary materials where deterioration had occurred over time. This blend of old and new creates an interesting character throughout the building.
