Teleférico de Kuelap, Aerial tramway in Amazonas, Peru.
The Teleférico de Kuelap is an aerial tramway connecting the lower town of Nuevo Tingo to the archaeological site high above, covering approximately 4 kilometers. The journey takes around 20 minutes as the cable cars climb through varying elevations above the valley.
The cable car system opened in March 2017 as Peru's first aerial tramway of this scale. It was built to provide easier access to a major pre-Columbian archaeological site in the region.
The cable car route provides access to the pre-Inca fortress of Kuelap, a monumental complex built by the Chachapoya civilization in northern Peru.
Each cabin seats 8 passengers and the system can move up to 1,000 visitors per hour on the climb. Plan your visit for clear weather when possible, since clouds or rain can limit the views during the journey.
The route climbs approximately 650 meters in elevation between the lower and upper stations. This significant rise makes the journey physically noticeable and reveals how dramatically the terrain changes across the valley.
