Quito Botanical Gardens

Quito Botanical Gardens is a garden space in La Carolina that displays plants from Ecuador's different landscapes. The grounds feature species from misty mountains, tropical lowlands, and high-altitude grasslands all in one location.

The site began in 1989 from a former city nursery ground through the work of several institutions together. This transformation made the location a public place for nature study and plant observation.

The orchid houses display Ecuador's national flower with hundreds of species that grow in the country's misty mountain forests. Visitors see plants that normally only exist in hard-to-reach high-altitude zones.

The park sits in La Carolina and is easy to reach by public transport, with a station nearby. It works best to visit on weekends or quieter weekdays so you can explore at a relaxed pace.

The grounds have a wetland area with plants adapted to wet soils and a section with cushion plants from the high plateaus. These cushion plants grow extremely slowly and form dense green mats that look like natural ground cover.
