Church of Our Lady of Guápulo

The church features Spanish colonial design elements, including wooden carved doors, multiple domes, and ornate facades along its exterior stone walls.

Founded in 1541 by Spanish explorer Francisco de Orellana, this structure represents the earliest colonial church construction in Quito's extensive religious heritage.

The sanctuary contains numerous religious artworks from the colonial period and maintains regular Catholic services for the local community throughout the year.

Visitors can reach the church by following the winding Camino de Orellana path through the valley, with guided tours available during morning hours.

The church position between two valleys creates special lighting conditions at sunset, when the building casts long shadows across the Guápulo district.
