Güeppí Reserved Zone, Protected natural area in Loreto Region, Peru.
Güeppí Reserved Zone is a protected natural area in eastern Peru with extensive forests, seasonal wetlands, and rolling terrain near the Ecuador border. The reserve contains multiple habitats at different elevations with various waterways that shape the overall ecosystem.
The area was first protected as a reserved zone in 1997 and gained national park status in 2012 under SERNANP management. This official recognition reflected growing understanding of the ecological importance of this Amazonian region.
The Kichwa, Secoya, and Bora peoples live within these lands and continue their inherited traditions through daily life. Visitors can notice the marks of these communities in how they use the forest and build their settlements.
The area is wet and rainy year-round, with heavy precipitation that requires proper rain gear and waterproof equipment for any visit. Access is best arranged with local guides who know the terrain and can advise on the best time to explore.
Pink river dolphins inhabit the waters here and share their habitat with giant otters and black caimans. This combination of species makes the area one of few places where visitors can observe such a diverse group of Amazonian aquatic animals together.
