Castillo Naveira, Gothic castle in Luján, Argentina

Castillo Naveira is a castle in Luján built with towers, spires, and detailed stonework on its outer walls that reflects late 19th century European architectural designs. The structure combines Gothic arches, ornate facades, and fortification elements characteristic of medieval European castles.

The castle was commissioned in 1841 by Don Enrique Beschtedt and designed by Belgian architects to serve as a private residence with Gothic influences. Its construction represents a period in Argentina's history when European architecture was favored by the wealthy as a symbol of progress and refinement.

The name Naveira comes from the family of Matilde Golpe Brañas, widow of Manuel Naveira, who bought the estate in 1913; her son José Roque Naveira Golpe enlarged the castle. In 1922 José married Elina Fernández Beschtedt on the property, linking the two families. The building is a private residence and not open to the public.

The castle is private: the owner, Alfonso Rodrigo Naveira Fernández Beschtedt, does not allow the public in, so it can only be seen from outside. It stands in Luján, about 75 km from Buenos Aires, on flat grassy ground; the pale grey stone facade, the central tower with its open lantern and spire, and the corner round towers with conical roofs are visible from the grounds.

José Roque Naveira Golpe, who enlarged the castle with Ernesto Moreau, was also the main benefactor behind the building of the Asociación Argentina Amigos de la Astronomía in Parque Centenario, Buenos Aires. In 1922 he married Elina Fernández Beschtedt at the property. The current owner, Alfonso Rodrigo Naveira Fernández Beschtedt, does not admit the public.
