Basílica del Espíritu Santo, Roman Catholic church in Plaza Güemes, Palermo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Basílica del Espíritu Santo is a Roman Catholic church in Buenos Aires featuring two distinctive 54-meter towers in Romanesque style. The structure combines Belgian granite pillars with French stained glass windows and contains multiple altars for worship throughout its interior.
Construction began in 1890 as a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, originally owned by the Figueroa family. The site was expanded and transformed into the Holy Spirit Basilica in 1907.
The basilica displays religious symbols such as a dove representing the Holy Spirit and depictions of Mary and the twelve apostles throughout its interior. These images tell the story of the Christian faith that believers come to experience at this place.
The entrance features a Calvary scene depicting sacrifice, with archangel statues and holy water fonts positioned to orient visitors. These elements mark the beginning of your visit and guide you into the main worship space.
The medallion-shaped decorations in the central altar area depict the seven sacraments, a detail that many visitors overlook. This artistic arrangement subtly displays the theological structure central to Catholic practice.
