Porto União

Porto União is a municipality in Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, situated at an elevation of about 1,000 meters (3,300 feet). The area consists of forested hills and valleys cut through by several rivers.

The settlement began in 1842 when travelers discovered Vau do Iguaçu and established a vital trade route connecting southern and southeastern Brazil. This passage linked previously isolated regions and transformed the location into a crossroads for commerce and movement.

The town grew from settlements by German, Polish, Ukrainian, Italian, Austrian, and Russian immigrants who brought their traditions and ways of life. You can see these influences woven throughout the community and how people live today.

The town is easily reached via local roads connecting to surrounding municipalities. You will find schools, hospitals, and basic services throughout the area for residents and visitors.

The town sits directly on the border with União da Vitória, creating two connected urban centers that span two different Brazilian states. This shared boundary makes it remarkable as a linked pair of cities across state lines.
