Campos Novos

Campos Novos is a municipality in Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, spreading across hilly land and defined by farming. The area features extensive agricultural zones and is connected by two major federal highways.

The area was originally inhabited by Kaingang indigenous people before European settlers arrived in 1881 and established a settlement. Construction of a railway line greatly accelerated the region's development.

The population includes descendants of Italian, German, Portuguese, and Polish families whose traditions appear in local celebrations and crafts. This mixed heritage shapes how the community functions and celebrates together.

The area is best explored by car, as the two main highways provide a good foundation for navigation. Visitors should note the rural character and that amenities cluster in central areas.

The area is known for cooperative farming, where farmers work together to grow grain on a large scale. The dam in the region ranks among the highest in western Santa Catarina and shapes the landscape.
