The Campos Novos Dam spans 600 meters across the Canoas River, reaching a height of 202 meters within the Rio de la Plata Basin.
Construction of the dam started in August 2001 and finished in July 2006, requiring an investment of 671 million dollars for completion.
The dam project transformed local communities, creating employment opportunities while simultaneously necessitating the relocation of resident populations.
Three electric generators produce 880 megawatts of hydroelectric power, contributing substantially to Santa Catarina's energy infrastructure.
In June 2006, the dam experienced a tunnel collapse causing water leakage, leading to extensive repairs that continued until March 2007.
