Museu Ambiência Casa de Pedra, Historical museum in Caxias do Sul, Brazil
Museu Ambiência Casa de Pedra is a dwelling built from basalt stone with clay joints and wooden frames made from handcrafted bricks from the late 1800s. The building contains multiple rooms that reflect the layout and structure of a typical Italian home from that period.
Giuseppe Lucchese and his sons built this stone house in the 1890s, and it later passed to the Brunetta and Tomazzoni families. The building was converted into a museum in 1975 and stands as a record of Italian settlement in the region.
The museum displays everyday items from Italian settlers, including furniture, clothing, and tools for farming and household work. These objects reveal how families lived and worked in the region during the 1800s.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM and is located at Rua Matteo Gianella 531. You can call +55 54 3901-1463 for questions about access and other practical matters.
This house is the last remaining urban building of its architectural style in Caxias do Sul and features an outdoor stone oven and a traditional grape arbor. These features show how Italian families organized their daily life, from baking bread to growing grapes.
