Rio do Sul

Rio do Sul spans across 260 square kilometers of land at an elevation of 386 meters, intersected by the Itajaí-Açu, Itajaí do Norte, and Itajaí do Oeste rivers.

The territory, previously part of Blumenau, gained independent municipal status on April 15, 1931, following the establishment of state Law number 1,708.

The architecture throughout Rio do Sul exhibits strong German influences, with notable structures including the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and Ponte dos Arcos.

The municipality maintains multiple educational institutions, including Colégio Dom Bosco and UNIDAVI, serving its population of 72,006 residents as recorded in 2020.

The region experienced an unusual snowfall in 2013, while recurring floods have led to water levels exceeding 13 meters during significant events in 1983 and 2011.
