Itapetininga, Educational center in São Paulo state, Brazil.
Itapetininga is a municipality in the southern part of São Paulo state, Brazil, known for its schools and colleges. The area sits on rolling hills covered with farms and residential neighborhoods that spread across the countryside.
Portuguese settlers founded the settlement in 1770 under the name Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres de Itapetininga. Its location on a major route turned it into a regular stop for cattle traders moving between southern regions of Brazil.
Its name comes from Tupi-Guaraní and translates as path of dry stones, a reference to the indigenous people who first lived here. Today this legacy appears in the names of streets, schools and public buildings across the area.
Reaching the area from São Paulo city takes about two to three hours by road, depending on traffic conditions. The region is best suited for travelers interested in exploring farmland and rural landscapes.
The municipal flag carries six blue stars in its white corner section, each representing one of the six districts. Horizontal stripes in green, yellow, black and white complete the design.
