Ibitinga, Embroidery capital in São Paulo, Brazil

Ibitinga is a municipality in São Paulo state situated at approximately 500 meters elevation in southeastern Brazil. The town spans several hundred square kilometers and is crossed by the Tietê River, which shapes both the landscape and local economic activities.

The municipality was founded in 1876 and initially developed as an agricultural region with scattered settlements. The arrival of craftspeople and embroiderers from Madeira in the decades that followed transformed the local economy toward textile production.

The town has long been known for hand-embroidered textiles crafted by artisans working in small workshops and larger facilities throughout the area. This tradition shapes daily life and the local economy to this day.

Visitors find optimal conditions during warmer months when streets and workshops are especially active. The town center is easily walkable and allows for exploring various small production facilities and showrooms throughout the area.

The first embroidery fair in 1974 at the city stadium marked a turning point in its development into Brazil's leading textile craft center. This event became an annual gathering for buyers and sellers from across the country.
