Mogi das Cruzes, Municipality in São Paulo metropolitan region, Brazil
Mogi das Cruzes is a large city roughly 40 kilometers east of the capital São Paulo within the metropolitan area. The municipality covers an area of more than 700 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of around 760 meters.
Bandeirantes founded a settlement here in 1560, which gained town status in 1611. The place became an independent municipality in 1855 and grew into a regional center.
The city takes its name from the crosses that early settlers placed along paths to mark their routes. Today agriculture remains part of daily life, with vegetable farming shaping much of the surrounding landscape.
Several highways link the city with São Paulo and other nearby towns, while a local airport and railway lines offer further options. Visitors arriving during the day will find many shops and markets open in the city center.
A social program connects local farmers directly with more than a thousand families, supplying them with fresh food. This project strengthens both producers and recipients within the community.
