Local entrepreneurs established the Sociedade Anônima Companhia Teatral Sanjoanense in 1913, leading to the theater's construction and inauguration on October 31, 1914.
The theater space transformed from performances to skating rink in the 1930s, then to cinema in 1937, reflecting changing entertainment preferences.
The venue maintains its original stage design by using portable screens for film projections, preserving the architectural integrity of the performance space.
Italian architect J. Pucci designed this eclectic structure, which received CONDEPHAAT heritage status in 1987 through resolution number 261.
