The Museum of Folklore of São José dos Campos displays local handicrafts, textiles, and traditional objects from the region. The collection shows how people lived here and expressed their skills through everyday items and ceremonial pieces.

The museum was created to document how local customs and traditions evolved across different periods of Brazilian history. Its collections include documents and photographs showing how ways of life and artistic expression changed over time.

The museum is run by the Centro de Estudos da Cultura Popular (CECP) together with the Fundação Cultural Cassiano Ricardo, which took over its upkeep in 2000. Its collection began with 203 pieces gathered and studied by the Municipal Folklore Commission, and it covers the folklore of São José dos Campos, the Vale do Paraíba and the Litoral Norte of São Paulo.

The museum occupies the old "Casa da Gerência" inside Parque Municipal Roberto Burle Marx, known as Parque da Cidade, in the Santana neighbourhood, not the city centre. The park is a preservation zone holding historic buildings, so allow time to walk between the museum and the former Tecelagem Parahyba structures. Access is via the park.

The museum occupies the former "Casa da Gerência", a house built in 1920 on the Tecelagem Parahyba farm, where Olivo Gomes lived with his family before moving to the Rino Levi residence in 1951. The building later served as a guesthouse known as "Casa Velha".
