The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and Saint Benedict is a colonial structure in Paraty featuring ornate interior spaces and traditional architectural elements from the 18th century. The facade and interior display detailed woodwork and religious artwork that reflect the craftsmanship of the period.

Built in 1725 at the request of the brothers Manuel Ferreira dos Santos and Pedro, the church served the enslaved people who helped construct it. The Irmandade de Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos, formed in 1750 by Black members, rebuilt it in 1757. It was listed as national heritage by IPHAN in 1962 and restored in 2002 under architect Júlio César Dantas.

The church emerged from the meeting of Portuguese and African spiritual traditions and served as the primary gathering place for the African-descended community. Visitors can experience how this role continues to shape the place today.

The building sits centrally in Paraty and welcomes visitors daily for religious services and independent exploration. The best times to visit are morning or early afternoon when daylight illuminates the interior details and craftsmanship.
